Mariah Carey Unveils the Truth Behind Her Long-Standing Feud with Jennifer Lopez

In a recent revelation, Mariah Carey has shed light on the tumultuous history of her feud with fellow superstar Jennifer Lopez.

Through her candid new autobiography, Carey offers fans a glimpse into the complexities of their strained relationship and doesn’t hold back on delivering some pointed remarks.

Carey dives into the origins of their rivalry, which has been the subject of speculation for years.

She asserts that her ex-husband, Tommy Mottola, played a pivotal role in escalating tensions between the two artists.

According to Carey, Mottola attempted to sabotage the success of her 2001 film “Glitter” and its lead single “Loverboy,” a track that was also linked to Lopez’s song “I’m Real.”

In her memoir, Carey expresses her belief that Mottola wielded his influence to punish her following their divorce, which occurred three years before “Glitter” hit theaters.

She claims he leveraged his connections to undermine the film’s potential, stating, “He would not allow me to have a significant success after leaving him and Sony.

He wouldn’t let me or ‘Glitter’ thrive.”

The singer alleges that Mottola’s machinations extended to the soundtrack of “Glitter,” where he actively worked against her interests.

Carey contends that he orchestrated efforts to remove her promotional materials from record stores, effectively stifling her visibility and success.

“It was as if he was determined to ensure I fell short,” she reflects.

Adding fuel to the fire, Carey reveals that the lead single “Loverboy” included a sample from the Yellow Magic Orchestra’s song “Firecracker,” which was also incorporated into Lopez’s production.

She claims that once Sony discovered the overlap, they hurriedly pushed out Lopez’s “I’m Real,” further intensifying the competition between the two artists.

Although Carey refrains from naming Lopez directly in her book, she describes how the swift actions of Sony executives didn’t escape her notice.

“After hearing my new song, they rushed to create a single for another female artist on their label, whom I don’t even know,” she writes, hinting at the behind-the-scenes maneuvering that fueled the rivalry.

Carey recounts how Mottola allegedly contacted Irv Gotti, urging him to collaborate with Lopez on a duet, leaving her scrambling to rework her own song.

The competitive nature of the music industry is laid bare as Carey navigates the challenges posed by Mottola’s interference.

In a particularly biting moment, Carey takes a jab at Lopez, noting that despite the chaos surrounding “Loverboy,” it ultimately became the best-selling single of 2001 in the United States, overshadowing Lopez’s efforts with “I’m Real.”

“And even after all that drama, ‘Loverboy’ still came out on top,” she quips.

These explosive revelations come as Carey prepares to delve deeper into her life experiences and relationships in her memoir.

The singer has previously stated that she feels Lopez doesn’t even register in her world, and her comments about Madonna reflect a similar sentiment.

When Madonna claimed she would rather die than sing some of Carey’s hits, Mariah retorted, suggesting that she hasn’t paid much attention to Madonna since her youth.

As fans eagerly anticipate more insights from Carey’s memoir, it’s clear that the saga of her rivalry with Lopez is far from over.
