Kourtney Kardashian recently shared a deeply personal and frightening experience from last summer involving her son, Rocky XIII.
The reality star recounted the harrowing moments leading up to an emergency fetal surgery that was necessary before his birth with husband Travis Barker.
In the latest episode of “The Kardashians,” Kourtney reflected on this challenging chapter in her life, shedding light on the rare lung condition that prompted the urgent medical intervention.
In a candid confessional, Kourtney revealed, “A couple of months ago, we had a terrifying scare where I had to have emergency fetal surgery.” She explained that little Rocky faced a serious issue with fluid accumulation in his lungs, a condition that is not only rare but also potentially life-threatening.
Thankfully, Kourtney expressed immense gratitude for the successful outcome of the surgery, saying, “It’s super rare that this is the condition that he had, but it’s also super rare and lucky that we caught it.”
Despite the success of the surgery, Kourtney admitted that anxiety lingered as she worried about her son’s well-being.
“I was definitely filled with fear after the surgery and the fluid in his lungs,” she confessed.
To cope with her fears, Kourtney turned to a documentary titled “Heal,” which emphasizes the power of positive thinking and its impact on health.
This shift in perspective played a crucial role in her emotional recovery.
Kourtney began communicating with her unborn baby daily, offering prayers and encouragement.
She noted, “After I had that mindset shift, the fluid was completely gone, and we had not one single problem after.” This newfound positivity seemed to correlate with a significant improvement in Rocky’s condition, showcasing the potential benefits of mental resilience during difficult times.
The timeline of events unfolded between August and September 2023 when Kourtney was rushed to the hospital for the emergency procedure.
During this period, both she and Travis stepped back from social media, keeping the details private until Kourtney felt ready to share her story in early September.
In the premiere episode of “The Kardashians” earlier this year, she provided further context about the circumstances that led to the surgery.
Kourtney explained that they had arranged for a detailed home scan so that all their children could see the baby, just before Travis was set to leave for tour.
However, the high-risk doctor who conducted the scan noticed something concerning, prompting Kourtney to seek additional evaluations from specialists.
Describing the experience, Kourtney recalled how daunting the situation was.
“I had to go in for fetal surgery, in which they do surgery on the baby, which was terrifying,” she said.
Her emotions were palpable as she shared the stress surrounding the event, particularly for Travis, who was on tour at the time.
Kourtney highlighted the added strain on Travis, revealing, “The thing that was awful was that his Wi-Fi was broken on the plane, so the whole time, he couldn’t get updated.” This detail underscored the challenges they faced as a couple during such a critical moment.
By the time Travis returned home, Kourtney had already undergone the surgery, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
Kris Jenner, Kourtney’s mother, was by her side during the surgery, providing essential support.
