In a heartfelt social media post, Karen Spencer, the estranged wife of Earl Charles Spencer, has opened up about her feelings following their recent divorce announcement.
After 13 years of marriage, Karen is taking time to process the emotional upheaval that comes with such a significant life change.
On Friday, the founder and CEO of Whole Child International took to Instagram, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support she has received.
“I have been overwhelmed by the messages of love and support,” she shared, alongside images from a summer solstice gathering.
Her message radiated warmth, as she thanked everyone for their kindness, while also indicating that she needed some time to sort through her thoughts.
“I’m just processing at the moment.
Will come back to you soon,” she added, hinting at the complexity of her current situation.
Earlier this month, the world learned about the couple’s separation when Earl Charles Spencer, the younger brother of the late Princess Diana, spoke to the Daily Mail.
Describing the split as “immensely sad,” he expressed his commitment to focusing on his children and grandchildren moving forward.
“I wish Karen every happiness in the future,” he remarked, showcasing a sense of mutual respect despite their personal struggles.
The couple’s marriage came to an end during a turbulent time for Spencer, who was deep into writing his memoir, A Very Private School.
In this book, he bravely opened up about his experiences with childhood sual abuse, a secret he had kept hidden for many years.
His revelations about the past shed light on the difficulties he faced in his romantic relationships, ultimately leading to two previous divorces.
Spencer reflected on his journey, stating, “I was so confused by my endless romantic disasters, deep unhappiness, and two divorces.” His desire to improve himself for the sake of his children became a powerful motivator for seeking help.
“I wanted to get better for them so I could be a better father,” he explained, acknowledging that his role as a parent pushed him toward healing.
In the months leading up to the divorce, Spencer reported significant progress in his mental health journey.
He emphasized that writing his memoir was a turning point, helping him confront his past and embark on a path toward more honest therapy.
“Saying it out loud was surprisingly helpful,” he noted, recognizing the importance of sharing his story.
As he continues to navigate his recovery from post-traumatic stress disorder, Spencer has incorporated various techniques into his routine, including Tai Chi and breathing exercises.
“I’ve got a whole armory of support techniques to try and get to a better place,” he shared, indicating a proactive approach to his well-being.
The couple’s union, which began in June 2011 at Althorp House, produced a daughter, Charlotte Diana, named in honor of her royal aunt.
Karen Spencer also has two older daughters from her previous marriage to Hollywood producer Mark Gordon, blending their families in a unique way.
